DETROIT – The scene was unlike any that’s been seen in the Ford Field home locker room.
The Lions were in various states of anger, disbelief and frustration after their 45-31 home loss to the Commanders on Saturday night in the divisional round of the playoffs.
Here’s what several Lions players had to say in the locker room after that loss:
Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown on his feelings: “It’s tough. It’s just tough for the fans, it’s tough for us as players, coaches, everyone involved.”
Lions C Frank Ragnow on his emotions: “Just disappointed. Just so, so, so disappointed. Frustrated. Sad. You put a lot of work into it, a lot of things that people don’t see and to fall short is so, so frustrating.”
Ragnow on QB Jared Goff: “I will ride with Jared Goff until the day I die, any aspect of life. Football, no matter what it is. One of the most stand-up human beings, players, leaders, you name it. I’ll always have his back.”
Ragnow on the Lions’ execution: “Again and again we just didn’t play clean football. Especially in the playoffs, you just can’t win like that.”
Lions DE Josh Paschal on the season: “You want the wins, you want the Super Bowl rings. Unfortunately it didn’t go according to our plan. You’re going to get hit with some adversity in your life, and I feel like it matters how you bounce back. This season, it was great up until now. It’s going to sting until we get back next year.”
Lions OL Taylor Decker on moving forward : “This is not going to be the same team, the same group of players, as it was this year. Some of our friends will move on to other teams, some guys might retire, and some coaches will leave. That’s why you can’t take any of these opportunities for granted. I don’t think we took this one for granted, but you never know when you’ll get another shot.”
Decker on the loss: “It’s going to bother me forever, honestly. You never know what could have been, and you never know when your opportunities are going to come.
Lions TE Sam Laporta on the message in the locker room after the game: “Be proud of the year we had. One game doesn’t define a team. We fought through adversity the entire year. At times, people counted us out, then built us up, then tore us down. I’m so proud of this team. Love your buddies, appreciate the hard work you put in alongside your coaches, the staff, and the entire organization. A lot of people put in a lot of hours behind the scenes that don’t get recognized, so we just try to appreciate them.”
LaPorta on the feeling after the game: “The end goal is obviously to hoist the Lombardi. It sucks, but I’m sure after some time passes, we’ll be able to appreciate what we did together as a team and with our buddies. Right now, it’s just really disappointing.
Lions LB Alex Anzalone on the Commanders’ offense: “They’re a good offense, and when you have a quarterback who can run, it creates issues…It was one of those games where you had to be efficient or get minus plays on first down to get them into second-and-long, but it just felt like we couldn’t find a groove.
Anzalone on what happened on the 12-men-on-the-field penalty: “I have no clue.”
Anzalone on the Commanders: “At this stage, in the divisional round, every team is great. They’re a great team, and I have a lot of respect for them. We just didn’t have the momentum. And in a game of momentum, when things aren’t going your way and in adversity situations, it’s sometimes hard to overcome those. That’s just how the game goes.”
