MANAHAWKIN, NJ — A new outdoor gym is set to open at Nautilus Park, part of a partnership between Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, National Fitness Campaign and Stafford Township that will expand free access to digital wellness programming and adaptable workouts.
The outdoor Fitness Court will open on Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, according to a news release.
It was developed by Horizon, National Fitness Campaign and Stafford to expand free access to high quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for communities around the state. It calls itself “the world’s best outdoor gym” and lets people use their own body weight to get a complete workout using seven exercise stations.
Created with people aged 14-and-over and with all abilities in mind, the workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users are encouraged to download the free Fitness Court App which acts as a coach-in-your-pocket and enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience.
“Investing in Fitness Courts is another way Horizon is working to empower our members to achieve their best health, while partnering with community organizations to build a healthier New Jersey,” said Gary D. St. Hilaire, Horizon’s President and CEO. “As New Jersey’s hometown health insurer, we’re focused on making good health more affordable and more accessible. The
opportunities created by our partnership with National Fitness Campaign builds on Horizon’s 90 year history of supporting local organizations and improving the health of New Jersey’s communities.”
“Thank you to Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and National Fitness Campaign. The Fitness Court is a great addition to the Township’s recreational facilities and creates opportunities for healthier living through exercise. This is a commitment to the Mayors Wellness Campaign and Sustainable Jersey programs to promote a healthy community right here in Stafford Township,” Mayor Robert Henken said.
“National Fitness Campaign is proud to welcome the Township of Stafford to the campaign as a leader in New Jersey, championing health and wellness for their residents,” said Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign. “The addition of the Fitness Court, along with digital wellness programming, demonstrates a tremendous commitment to the health and wellbeing within the community.”
