Travis Head has had the last laugh as he delivered a not-so-subtle swipe at Indian fans in the midst of Australia’s Border-Gavaskar series victory celebrations.

After dismissing Rishabh Pant in Melbourne, the part-time Aussie off-spinner celebrated by dipping his spin finger into the middle of his left hand, a seemingly harmless celebration that Pat Cummins stated was Head dipping his finger into ice.

Despite the fairly tame act, Indian fans quickly took the matter down a dark path as they bombarded Head’s wife Jessica with abuse on social media.

But in the wake of securing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 3-1 series victory, Head decided to deliver a parting shot at the Indian faithful.

In the thick of celebrating the historic achievement, Head posted an image to his Instagram account with his index finger being dipped into a beer which he captioned “ooppss”.

The beer was the first for Head since returning from the white ball tour of the UK nearly three-and-a-half months ago, according to the Daily Telegraph, after the Australian elected to ban himself from drinking during the Test summer.

Head was arguably Australia’s best player throughout the series, finishing with 448 runs at an average of 56.

He combined with debutant Beau Webster to guide the Aussies home to victory during an exhilarating New Year’s Test at the SCG.

Despite his brilliance throughout the series with the willow, Head played down his achievements and said he was looking forward to some time off.

“It’s just nice to contribute,” he said.

“I don’t worry too much about what the result might be. I just realised we are into the World Test Championship. I forgot about that in what has been a crazy three days. It’s been busy and I’m looking forward to 10 days off.”

Head said the series could have gone either way with the momentum in every Test throughout the series swinging like a pendulum.

“The last series in Australia they played exceptionally well. We probably let one slip in Perth (when India won the first Test) and we traditionally play really well there, so we were on the back foot

“The series could have gone in any direction for the last few Test matches and it’s been a crazy five (games). The media has hyped it up in different directions and different narratives. I don’t agree with some and I do agree with some others. It’s a bloody tough tour. It’s nice to come out on the winning side.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do over the next few days. We’ve got 10 or 12 days off before we go to Sri Lanka and I’m gonna use every little bit of that. It’s been a tough tour, so I will look forward to a couple of cold ones tonight. I’ve been off the drink, so I will look after myself and then turn my attention to what’s next.”

Australia will return to action when they play two Tests against Sri Lanka that kick off later in January.
