Internet gaming and sports betting operators saw a nearly 24% increase in gross receipts in Michigan last year — to more than $2.9 billion, state officials said this week.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board said that in 2024, iGaming and sports betting operators handled more than $5 billion in bets and reported a combined $2.9 billion in gross iGaming and sports betting receipts — $2.4 billion from iGaming and $460.5 million from internet sports betting — a 23.8% increase over 2023.
As of December 2024, 15 commercial and tribal operators have been authorized to launch iGaming, the MGCB said, and 12 offering sports betting.
The annual adjusted receipts among iGaming and sports betting operators totaled $2.4 billion — $2.2 billion from iGaming and $194.4 million from internet sports betting — a 22.3% increase over 2023, officials said in the release.
Here’s a look at some of the figures for 2024.
December iGaming gross receipts totaled $244 million, the highest monthly total to date, according to the MGCB. The previous high was $226 million in November 2024.
December gross sports betting receipts totaled $20.2 million, which is a decrease from the $58.3 million recorded in November.
Combined adjusted gross receipts or December were $219.9 million, including $219.6 million from iGaming and $267,881 from internet sports betting. Adjusted iGaming totals increased 8% and sports betting decreased 99.3% when compared to November 2024.
Compared to December 2023 reported revenues, iGaming adjusted gross receipts were up 34.5% and sports betting was down 99.2%.
The operators paid $466.1 million in taxes and payments to the State of Michigan in 2024, of which:
