LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – A player on the Oklahoma City Thunder’s basketball team helped out a grandmother and her family of six, giving them a $500 shopping spree.
The shopping spree is part of a partnership between the local Homeland Grocery Store in Oklahoma City and the Thunder.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander surprised the family and joined them to assist with selecting and bagging groceries.
They also provided the family with gift cards to help with buying the kids’ toys.
“It’s Everything, it’s why you play the game, it’s why I enjoy having this platform,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. This, I guess, stature that I have is an opportunity to give back. It’s an opportunity to be an example, and just to show the community that we are an arms-length away, not as far as it seems.“
The V.P. of Operations at Homeland stated that she’s glad that they have opportunities like this to help serve their local communities.
