LAKEWOOD — Massillon and Lakewood St. Edward will square off in a battle of 2023 high school football state champions tonight at Lakewood Stadium. Kickoff time is 7.
St. Edward outlasted Springfield 31-21 to win last year’s Division I state championship. Massillon beat Hoban 7-2 to win the Division II title, the Tigers’ first state championship in the playoff era.

Massillon won the coin toss and elected to defer. St. Edward will receive the opening kickoff and defend the Madison Avenue goal. For those who don’t know Lakewood, that’s the south goal.
Massillon enters with a 3-1 record. The Tigers opened the season with a 35-20 victory over NFL Academy UK, shut out GlenOak 45-0, lost to Bergen Catholic 35-21 in their home opener and beat Canisius 41-7.
St. Edward is also 3-1. The Eagles defeated Pickerington North 28-0 and Saint Joseph’s Prep 35-21, lost to Boyle County 38-21 and beat Elder 24-17.
