UNIONTOWN — The Green High School football team accomplished its mission Friday night by extending its winning streak to four games with a dramatic 21-17 victory over Jackson, conquering what has long been a thorn in the Bulldogs’ side.
Jackson (2-3, 0-1 in the Federal League) has been tormenting Green (4-1, 2-0) for the vast majority of the past decade and hoped to maintain the status quo. However, Green used a miracle touchdown pass in the game’s waning moments to prevail.
The Federal League foes clashed in Week 5 at Green Memorial Stadium. Kickoff occurred at 7 p.m. Here is how the game unfolded through our updates.
Green orchestrated a 12-play, 84-yard scoring drive in crunch time to take a 21-17 lead with 26 seconds left to play.
On third-and-6, Green junior quarterback Tyson Hunka threw to junior running back Evan Reed in the front of the end zone. The ball deflected off Reed, but senior wide receiver Anthony Fortunato caught the ball in the back of the end zone for the game-winning 8-yard touchdown.
Jackson got the ball back one last time, but Green senior defensive back Antonio Martin recorded an interception to seal the Bulldogs’ victory with 11 seconds remaining.
Jackson took a 17-14 lead with 9:29 left in the fourth quarter. Senior running back Foster Stanley rushed for a 3-yard touchdown on his sixth consecutive carry to give the Polar Bears the advantage.
After falling behind by three points early in the second half, Green countered during its first possession of the third quarter.
Green captured a 14-10 lead against Jackson when junior quarterback Tyson Hunka rolled to his left and threw with his left hand to junior running back Evan Reed. The catch-and-run resulted in a 29-yard touchdown, and Green went ahead 14-10 with 2:17 left in the third quarter.
Jackson scored on the first possession of the second half when junior Cooper Mizeur capped a 10-play drive with a 30-yard field goal. The successful kick gave Jackson a 10-7 lead with 7:35 remaining in the third quarter.
The score was tied 7-7 at halftime.
After the two teams traded interceptions late in the first quarter, Jackson capitalized on its takeaway with a six-play, 33-yard scoring drive.
Junior quarterback Lucas Ecrement rushed for a 9-yard touchdown, and Jackson tied the score 7-7 with 9:30 left in the second quarter.
Who had the aforementioned interceptions? Green junior defensive back Evan Georgiou and Jackson senior defensive back Cooper Geissinger.
At the end of the first quarter, Green led Jackson 7-0.
Green began the game with a 12-play, 88-yard scoring drive. Junior quarterback Tyson Hunka capped the march by connecting with senior wide receiver Antonio Martin for a 21-yard touchdown. Green seized a 7-0 lead with 7:26 left in the first quarter.

In the past 10 seasons, Green has gone 1-9 against Jackson. The Bulldogs’ lone victory during the span was a 29-28 thriller at home in 2022.
Jackson defeated Green 20-13 at home last season.
Last season, Green went 10-4, including 3-1 in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II playoffs. The Bulldogs finished 3-3 in Federal League games, finishing fourth in the standings.
In 2023, Jackson went 5-6, including 0-1 in the Division I playoffs. The Polar Bears went 2-4 in Federal League play, tying for fifth place.
