Ohio State head football coach Ryan Day shared a condescending “woe is me” complaint to the rest of the sport in an accidental flex. Day claimed that because his team played until the CFP title game on January 20, multiple transfer portal windows are necessary for his coaching staff to recruit.
“For us, if we didn’t have the second transfer portal window, it’s very, very difficult,” Day said on The Joel Klatt Show, per On3. “We’re trying to make decisions about next year, yet our year isn’t even done yet. So that affects your current roster, and it’s just messy. I think you’ve gotta have two portals unless you’re finishing the season sooner. But if you’re finishing the season on Jan. 20, you can’t have just one portal window.”
Day’s Buckeyes dominated on the field but couldn’t have done it without the most expensive roster in the sport. If anyone would be in support of more recruiting chances, it’d be Day.
Something Day didn’t support was college football’s grueling calendar for student-athletes. Day supports a change where a new semester doesn’t start as the previous athletics season is still going on.
“I think the first thing is, I think we need to look at the calendar,” Day said. “Starting a new semester for two weeks, and still playing the last season doesn’t really make much sense at all for a lot of reasons. I’m not going to get into all those reasons right now, but we need to take a hard look at that.”
Day was opinionated Monday. Even the national championship head coach isn’t satisfied with where the sport is overall.
