The Ohio State football team will head into the offseason as national champions. It doesn’t get any better than that. Their incredible run culminated in a 34-23 victory over Notre Dame to hoist the trophy. It was a year of hard work that paid off in the end.
Now that the season is officially over, a lot of players have decisions to make. Some guys had already decided to enter the transfer portal at the end of the regular season. Some guys will also have to make a decision to enter the NFL Draft. More players are likely to enter the portal now, too.
With the season ending in a championship, any player who enters the portal won’t be contributing to a distraction of any kind. One Buckeye has already decided to enter the portal just a day after winning a national title in order to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
Cornerback Calvin Simspon-Hunt is expected to enter the transfer portal. He is a former four-star recruit, coming in during the 2023 recruiting class. Despite all of the players the Buckeyes will be losing next season in the secondary, he will not be staying.
Simpson-Hunt was expected to fight for playing time next season. With Jordan Hancock and Denzel Burke headed to the NFL, two starting spots have opened up. There might be a third as well, depending on the decision that Davison Igbinuson makes.
The Ohio State Buckeyes will be incredibly thin at corner next season. Jermaine Mathews Jr. will be a starter, and so will Igbinuson if he comes back. Any playing time behind them will be either Aaron Scott or incoming true freshman Devin Sanchez as the two likely candidates.
We wish Simpson-Hunt nothing but the best at his next stop.
