Ohio State football is coming off one of the most impressive national championship runs in college football history, but that hasn’t stopped coaches and players from leaving for greener pastures. We are all well aware of the action taking place in the transfer portal, but the Buckeyes came out relatively unscathed on that front. The coaching staff on the other hand, defensive coordinator, Jim Knowles, is out the door and will now be in charge of the defense for the Big Ten rival, Penn State — and he may not be the only departure.
No coach has earned his keep through the playoff run more than offensive line coach, Justin Frye, and it looks like he has NFL suitors. Ohio State fans kept Frye’s feet to the fire all season long due to some perceived recruiting woes and a few wonky games, but there is no question that the injury-depleted offensive line of the Buckeyes was unstoppable when it mattered, and now, unfortunately — he is interviewing for the same position with the Chicago Bears.
I’m sure Ohio State will do what it can to retain Frye, and we must note that nothing is official at this time. We’ll keep an eye on this and other offseason news as we head into spring.
