What we learned
Ohio State knows it’ll get every team’s best shot. It seems to happen more often than not that coaching staffs come in with a pretty good plan to make things interesting early on. The same happened Saturday afternoon when the Wildcats moved the ball with precision down the field in its first two drives, scoring a touchdown on the second one.
However, unfortunately for Northwestern, it fumbled away the ball on the first drive, then had a muffed snap and a snap that went over the punter’s head that led to a block with the score tied that set up a go-ahead touchdown for a 14-7 lead. Then the wheels fell off.
The game wasn’t the same from there on out with Ohio State dominating. The Wildcats could have made this thing interesting if not for the mistakes, and then all the talent, depth, and coaching took over. Water finds its level more often than not, and it’s really hard to sustain what we saw from Northwestern early in the contest against what the Buckeyes have on the roster.
