MESQUITE, Nevada – The Ohio Men’s Golf team kicked off their spring schedule at the Mesquite Desert Classic Feb 16-18. The Bobcats finished in a tie for 10th place with an overall score of 882 (+18). The three-day event was hosted by Eastern Kentucky at the Casablanca Resort & Casino. Junior Nathaniel Gray Lamont (Guelph, Ontario) was the low Bobcat, finishing tied for 24th.
As a team, Ohio opened the first round with a score of 292 and concluded the second round with a 293, closing out the tournament by shooting a 297.
Utah Valley won the event, followed by Eastern Kentucky (-18) in second, with Cal Poly (-17) close behind in third, Utah Tech (-10) in fourth and Seattle (-5) in fifth.
Individually, Gray Lamont led the Bobcats, recording rounds of 74 and 72 in the first two rounds, before finishing Tuesday with a 72 for a total tournament score of 218 (+2), securing a tie for 24th place.
Junior Will Kates (Centennial, Colorado) was next for Ohio, finishing tied for 36th. Kates shot scores of 71 and 72 in the first two rounds, and a 77 on the final day for a total score of 220 (+4). Graduate student Jack Neville (Terrace Park, Ohio) followed close behind Daulton, finishing tied for 48th, with a score of 224 (76+75+73), ending the tournament eight over par.
Next, senior Sam Hogan (Burlington, Ontario) finished the tournament tied for 50th, for a total score of 225. Hogan shot scores of 71 and 79 during the first two days of the tournament, finishing with a score of 75, to be nine over par. Meanwhile, senior Matt Daulton (Lebanon, Ohio) finished tied for 61st, opening the tournament with an 82, before concluding the second round with a 74, and the final day with a 80, finishing the tournament with a score of 236 (+20).
The Bobcats will be back in action March 10-11 at the Ross Collegiate Classic. The two-day event is hosted by George Mason at the Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.
