TROY, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men’s basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped at RPI on Friday evening as the Bombers dropped a 66-38 outcome to the Engineers. Ithaca is now 9-6 overall on the season and 6-2 in the Liberty League.
It was a struggle offensively for the Bombers all night as IC scored just 18 points in the first half and trailed RPI by 16 at the half, 34-18. The 18 points were the fewest the Bombers have scored in a half all season. IC was held to 20 points in the second half for its lowest point total since 2004 when the Bombers scored 40 against Utica.
Ithaca shot 14-for-51(27.5%) in the game, 4-for-19 (21.1%) from 3-point range and 6-for-12 (50%) at the line. RPI was 24-for-62 (38.7%) overall and 12-for-29 (41.1%) from beyond the arc. The Bombers were also outrebounded, 50-32, in the loss.
The Bombers led after the opening possession of the game on a Logan Wendell 3-pointer, but a seven-point run by RPI over the next three minutes gave the Engineers the lead for good. The Engineers then extended their lead to 11 points at 17-6 with 12:48 to go in the half and IC was never able to pull closer to within nine points for the rest of the contest.
Wendell led Ithaca with 13 points on 4-of-11 shooting and went 2-for-5 from 3-point range. Chris Leysath pulled down 13 rebounds, to go along with seven points, while Jaylon O’Neal added five points.
IC will look to get back on track tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. as the Bombers head to Skidmore.
