Ocean State Job Lot has purchased the Cumberland Crossing shopping center in North Attleborough with plans to open a new store in the former Christmas Tree Shops location, the company announced Tuesday.
The discount retail chain, which has 159 stores across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, will unveil the new storefront in the second quarter of 2025, according to a statement from the company. Ocean State Job Lot is hiring up to 70 new employees to work at the new location.
The acquisition marks the company’s 53rd store in Massachusetts and its eight in Bristol County, according to the statement. Plaza co-tenants in the shopping center located at 1505 South Washington St. include Altitude Trampoline Park, Guitar Center, Planet Fitness, Play It Again Sports, David’s Bridal, and FedEx.
The company, which sells merchandise including apparel, pet supplies, and household goods at closeout prices, has 5,600 employees and annual sales exceeding $800 million.
Following Christmas Tree Shops’ filing for bankruptcy last year, the 51,074 square-foot store will take over the space where the shop resided “continuing OSJL’s strategic repurposing of former retail sites,” the statement said. Ocean State Job Lot has converted six other Christmas Tree Shops properties across New England.
“We’re thrilled not only to expand our retail footprint but also to solidify our presence in North Attleborough through the acquisition of this prominent shopping plaza,” said Mark O’Connor, senior real estate manager, in the statement. “This location represents our ongoing commitment to providing value-driven shopping experiences for our customers across New England, and we look forward to bringing our unique brand of service and savings to the local community.”
