The NYPD is asking for the public’s help in identifying the three gunmen who opened fire in an illegal gambling den in a Flushing apartment building last month, killing one man and injuring a second.
Police from the 109th Precinct in Flushing responded to a 911 call of a person shot at 41-19 Haight St. just before 2:20 on the night of Thursday, Dec. 19.
The three suspects held numerous victims at gunpoint and forcibly removed multiple pounds of marijuana inside the suspected gambling parlor in the cellar of the apartment building, police said Monday. The gunman discharged their firearms, striking 37-year-old Yun Li in the head and a 42-year-old man in the face.
Homicide detectives are looking for three Hispanic men who were seen running from the building shortly after the shots were fired. They sped away from the scene in a black Dodge Durango and a gray Nissan Pathfinder traveling toward Sanford Avenue.
EMS rushed Li to New York Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. The second wounded man was transported to the same hospital by private means, where he was listed in stable condition. The suspects remain at large and the homicide investigation remains ongoing.
Li, who lived just a few blocks away from the crime scene on Franklin Avenue, succumbed to his injuries on Monday, Dec. 23, and was pronounced dead.
The NYPD released surveillance images of the three suspects on Monday, showing them inside the gambling den. One photo shows video gambling machines lining the wall behind one of the gunmen who wore a black winter jacket, black pants, black shoes, and a black facemask. The second suspect was not masked and wore a black winter jacket, dark sweatpants, and a black knit winter cap. The third man wore a gray and blue hooded jacket, dark pants, and black shoes, a black face covering and a gray knit winter cap.
Anyone with information regarding this robbery investigation is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) @NYPDTips. All calls and messages are confidential.
Through Jan. 12, the 109th Precinct has reported four robberies so far in 2025, seven fewer than the 11 reported at the same point last year, a decline of 63-6%, according to the latest CompStat report.
