STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — There are close to 400 entry-level jobs currently available in NYC government — many of which require no civil service exam and minimal job-site experience. And some of the positions carry a salary of up to $70,000 a year.
According to the JobsNYC portal, there are a range of open positions throughout the five boroughs, most full-time, working for a variety of city agencies. Job titles include everything from claim specialist to confidential investigator.
Here’s a look at some of the spots currently available on Staten Island, according to the portal:
Housing Assistant for the NYC Housing Authority, $42,723 – $69,243 per year
Responsibilities include assisting in the resolution of tenancy problems, responding to complaints and collecting rent and rent arrears. Candidates will interview residents; investigate, and verify information obtained. They will also inform tenants of Housing Authority rules, regulations and requirements and conduct field visits for rent collection and housekeeping concerns.
Victim Advocate for the District Attorney of Richmond County, $58,000 – $65,000 per year
The Victim Advocate works to pursue justice for victims of crime. The job entails managing a personal caseload of crime victims needing assistance, assisting victims with submitting applications for crime victim assistance, attending hearings and other court proceedings, helping prepare victim impact statements for presentation in court at sentencing.
Watershed Maintainer for the Department of Environmental Protection, $44,838 – $65,538
The selected candidate will perform duties related to the operations, maintenance, repair and inspection of facilities, equipment and lands within the Staten Island Bluebelt System. The employee will operate motor vehicles and motor-powered equipment to perform work, manually clean catch basins in Bluebelt drainage areas, mow, prune, cultivate and maintain lawns, shrubs, trees and grades, and perform litter/debris pick-up within Bluebelt properties.
Secretary, New York City Housing Authority, $40,957 – $66,353
The successful candidate will assist with the preparation of reports, legal notices, disposition work orders and prepare notices for apartment inspections. Candidates will also be responsible for handling correspondence for supervisors to communicate with residents, community leaders, vendors and other New York City Housing Authority departments.
