The Nuggets are hiring former Denver Post reporter Mike Singer as director of intelligence and strategy as they make a series of front office hires and promotions before the 2024-25 NBA season, a league source told The Denver Post.
Singer served as the Nuggets beat writer at The Post for five seasons until he left the newspaper in 2023, two months after covering the franchise’s first championship. A former national NBA editor at USA TODAY, he is releasing a biography of Nikola Jokic this fall titled “Why So Serious? The Untold Story of NBA Champion Nikola Jokic.”
In addition to Singer’s hire, Todd Checovich is being promoted as the organization’s scouting director after Drew Nicholas, who held the position for two years, accepted a new job with the Brooklyn Nets this summer, according to a source.
Checovich was previously Denver’s director of college scouting. He played basketball at Colgate University and was the general manager of the Iowa Wolves, G League affiliate of the Minnesota Timberwolves, before joining the Nuggets in 2022 as a college scout and cap strategist.
Also included in the team’s personnel shuffling, Morgan Montgomery has been promoted to director of player services. She previously served as basketball operations coordinator/player programs, working closely with players.
