Los Angeles Lakers star forward LeBron James has accomplished so much over his long career but there are a few things that he has never done. One of which is participating in the NBA Slam Dunk contest and he has received a ton of flak due to it over the years.

Many believe that James has ducked the competitiveness in the dunk contest but the timing has just never lined up. James has been focused on trying to win as many titles as he possibly can so these types of events come secondary.

Some players do believe that due to James not participating, it has had an effect on the event. Many other star players such as Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant have competed in the dunk contest, leaving some wondering why James never did.

Denver Nuggets star forward Aaron Gordon is one of those players who weighed in on it all. While speaking with James Brizuela of Newsweek Sports and The Big Lead, Gordon weighed in on how James forever changed the NBA Dunk Contest, even without him competing in the event.

“It is nerve wracking, the dunk contest is very nerve wracking and Bron is kind of an in-game dunker but he has so much bounce that if he had worked with somebody on like creativity dunks, he would have been able to do all of it. Bron was supposed to do the dunk contest for sure.”

Gordon knows a thing or two about the dunk contest, having participated in three different events. The forward fell short in the final round of the 2016, 2017, and 2020 Slam Dunk contests.

The Nuggets star is considered to be one of the better dunkers in the history of the contest even though he has never won. But the comments from Gordon are interesting and many have wondered if James will ever participate.

With him likely retiring in the next year or two, it is unlikely we see James in the dunk contest. Many fans would have loved to see what James could do in the dunk contest even if it wasn’t ever meant to be.
