Novak Djokovic flaunted his new bling with pride.
The Serbian tennis star, who earned his long-sought first Olympic gold medal in the men’s singles on Sunday, rocked the hardware around his neck during a festive evening at Le Siena Restaurant in Paris.
Djokovic — a 24-time Grand Slam title holder and Olympic bronze medalist — had been on an arduous quest for a gold medal, and a final two-set victory against Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz granted him the coveted prize.
He defeated Alcaraz 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) on the Paris clay, checking off one of the only boxes left in his storied career.
The 37-year-old became the fifth player in the world to complete the Golden Slam — all four majors along with an Olympic gold — joining Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams, who have also been named to the exclusive club.
“Arguably the biggest success I’ve ever had,” Djokovic said on Peacock’s broadcast.
“It’s been a blessing for me. I’m super-grateful to win a historic gold medal for my country, to complete the Golden Slam, to complete all the records.”
Following the victory, the Serb pro was captured sobbing into a towel before raising his country’s flag and climbing into the stands at Court Philippe-Chatrier to celebrate.
“I put my heart, my soul, my body, my family — my everything — on the line to win Olympic gold,” Djokovic told reporters in Paris. “Incredible battle, incredible fight.”
Djokovic took home the bronze at the 2008 Games in Beijing but fell short in London, Rio and Tokyo, where he lost to Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain in the bronze medal match in 2021.
Entering as the No.1 seed, he won every single set in all six of his matches in Paris – an achievement worth celebrating.
British actor Damson Idris and USA men’s basketball star Jayson Tatum were reportedly in attendance at the celebration.
