Novak Djokovic fans will be pleased to hear the latest news regarding his hamstring injury.
Djokovic sustained a slight muscle tear at the Australian Open, which forced him to retire from his semi-final against Alexander Zverev after the first set.
Therefore, the 37-year-old’s quest for a 25th Grand Slam title and an 11th at Melbourne Park came to an end in unfortunate circumstances.
Djokovic looked set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but the former World number one may be back on court sooner than originally suggested.
Novak Djokovic soon returned to Belgrade in Serbia after leaving the Australian Open due to injury.
The initial prediction was that the 24-time Grand Slam champion would be out of action for two months, but that no longer appears to be the case.
According to news outlet Sportal, Djokovic has undergone scans since returning home and the muscle tear is not as severe as first thought.
The publication adds that doctors have medically cleared Djokovic to return to light training in the next few days.
Therefore, if all goes well with his training, Djokovic could be back on court in February which at one stage looked impossible.
Djokovic was scheduled to play at the Qatar Open as his next tournament after the Australian Open.
However, following the injury, he was unsure if he would be able to compete in the Middle East.
But with the latest update in his hamstring, Djokovic now has a chance to be for the ATP 250 event which will run from February 17-22.
The field includes the likes of World number one and Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev.
Djokovic has won the tournament on two previous occasions, but Djokovic has not played at the Qatar Open since 2018.
