Only one Indian cricketer has scored a century on republic day
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
The 2025 Republic Day is the 76th in history, and over the years, the Indian cricket team has become among the nation’s biggest pride. Not only has the country produced some of the greatest cricketers to play the sport but has also been among the most successful Test teams in the world and won two Cricket World Cups. They have also lifted the T20 World Cup trophy twice. The Men in Blue have also crowned Champions Trophy winners in 2013 while sharing the honour in 2012. However, only one Indian cricketer in history has scored a ton on the historic date.
For those unversed, 26th January marks a special day for India as the country celebrates Republic Day. The occasion marks the commemoration of the country adopting a constitution in 1950. A grand celebration at New Delhi’s Kartava Park marks the occasion, which sees a special parade in which all states showcase their biggest achievements.
The unique distinction of being the only Indian to score a century on 26th January belongs to Virat Kohli, who achieved the feat in a Test match against Australia in 2012 at the Adelaide Oval. This was the first Test century of Kohli’s legendary career. Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sachin Tendulkar are the only other Indian players to score a 90+ score on the occasion.
