LEBANON, Pa. – John Olsen jumped into a tie for fourth individually behind a two-under round of 70 Saturday, highlighting day two of the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships at Iron Valley.
IUP held steady in fifth as a team despite the third-best round of the field on Saturday. Gannon remains in first place and has a 26-shot lead going into Sunday’s final round.
Led by individual leader Mattia Parrini (140; -4), the Golden Knights are poised to claim their first PSAC Championship in program history. Millersville (597), Pitt-Johnstown (602) and Shepherd (605) close out the top four ahead of IUP.
Olsen carded five birdies on his way to a strong two-under 70 on Saturday. The under-par round catapulted Olsen into a tie for fourth individually, moving up six spots. Olsen was one shot back from the low round of the day (69; -3), recorded by Shepherd’s Trey Rios.
Ben De Castro played the front nine at two under and closes round two in a tie for 10th individually. De Castro posted four birdies in the round and enters round three with a solid total of 149 (+5).
Guillermo Salazar sun three straight birdies on the front nine and posted four consecutive pars on Saturday. Behind a second-round mark of 76, Salazar is tied for 24th overall.
Alex Swinnerton carded a 77 and Evan Lewis added a six-over 78. The duo is tied for 31st individually.
IUP is seventh in the field on par-five holes (-5) at the PSAC Championships. Olsen is -5 on those par fives, while the rest of the team is even par. UPJ leads the field with a combined tally of -20 on par-five holes after two rounds.
