Here’s what FSU women’s basketball coach Brooke Wyckoff said about this season, new additions and Ta’Niya Latson
Florida State women’s basketball tips off its 2024-25 season Monday at 11 a.m. vs. The University of North Florida.
The No. 19 Seminoles are coming off a 23-11 season and another NCAA tournament appearance.
FSU is hoping to make another run come March and the first step to accomplish that goal is the season opener at the Donald L. Tucker Center.
Seminoles head coach Brooke Wyckoff is entering her third season leading the program and she has been with FSU as a coach since 2011. Before that, she played four seasons for the Seminoles from 1997-2001.
FSU is returning eight players from last season’s team. Sydney Bowles, Moreila Chavez, Raiane Dias Dos Santos and Malea Williams are new additions to FSU’s roster.
The Seminoles averaged 78.5 points per game last season, shooting on average just over 40% from the field and 31% from three.
Junior guard Ta’Niya Latson and senior forward Makayla Timpson were both named to the pre-season ACC teams.
Latson averaged 21.4 points per game last season, adding 4.2 assists and rebounds per game. She was named to the All-ACC first team and earned AP All-American Honorable Mentions for her performances last season.
Timpson set the single-season record for rebounds, blocks, and double-doubles last season, earning All-ACC First Team and All-ACC First Team Defense honors. She averaged a career-best 14.3 points per game, adding 10 rebounds per game.
The Seminoles are a perfect 9-0 against the Osprey all-time, winning the last matchup 78-50 in 2021. UNF comes into the game on the back of a 9-21 season, ending the year on a two-game losing streak.
UNF averaged 63.5 points per game last year. The Osprey’s top scorer is senior guard Kaila Rouger. She averaged 11.3 points per game in the 2023-24 season, adding four rebounds per game.
Her best game came in a double overtime win over Kennesaw State. In the win, she posted 23 points, four rebounds, six assists and two steals.
