The Boilermakers led by 15 late in the first half before Ohio State’s comeback. Hear what Matt Painter said after the loss.
Purdue basketball isn’t used to looking up at anyone, but Michigan brings twin towers when it visits on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025.
The No. 12 Boilermakers (15-5, 7-2 Big Ten) are coming off a home loss to Ohio State, which burned what had been a stellar Purdue defense for weeks (65.3 points allowed per game, No. 1 in conference play). The Boilers have struggled from long range lately (8-of-34 3-pointers over the past three games), though big man Trey Kaufman-Renn has averaged 22.7 points and 8.0 rebounds over that stretch.
No. 20 Michigan (14-4, 6-1) has run into some obstacles recently, splitting overtime games (losing to Minnesota, beating Northwestern). The Wolverines lead with 7-footers Vlad Goldin and Danny Wolf, who combine for 28.6 points, 16.1 rebounds and 3.1 blocked shots per game. Their presence allows Michigan to hold opponents below their shooting norms (41.1% overall, 29.3% 3-pointers, both No. 2 in league play) and own the boards (39.3 rebounds per game, also No. 2; +4.3 rebound margin, No. 3).
Purdue owns a significant edge over Michigan in protecting the ball in conference play. The Boilers own a +3.78 turnover margin per game (No. 1), while the Wolverines are -4.29 (No. 18).

The Boilermakers’ 3-point shooting has to come around at some point, but facing a team with two talented 7-footers will create some problems.
