On Monday, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) shared a video of Aamir Khan talking about the memorable matches he has witnessed at the Wankhede Stadium.
Aamir says, “Whenever the Indian team is on the field, there is a feeling inside. Had I been a part of the Indian cricket team it would have been a matter of pride, no matter what position I would be in. I think my most memorable match would be the 2011 World Cup final, which India won, it was a special day for us and nobody would forget that.”
Aamir also shared his admiration for Sachin Tendulkar with whom he shares a strong friendship that has lasted for decades.
Aamir continues, “I think the second most memorable match for me was when Sachin retired (in 2013). I was here for that game also, Sachin is someone I have been a huge huge fan of. I think the one person I really look upto is Sachin. He is my No. 1 favourite cricketer and always will be.”
The Indian film star also shared his love for Indian cricket.
“So it’s been a real joy to watch few India-England games. Down the years and decades we have had different players playing and I have been a fan of that first team that I was madly on love with. We used to collect their pictures and postcards. From that day onwards, I have been a huge fan of the Indian team,” Aamir adds.
Earlier on Sunday, India defeated South Africa by nine wickets in the women’s U-19 T20 World Cup final at Kuala Lumpur, clinching the title for the second time in a row. Chasing a modest 83 for a win, India chased down the target with 52 balls to spare, reaching 84/1 in 11.2 overs.
“Actually I would like to congratulate girls’ Under-19 team. What an amazing thing, we are so proud of you. You have this ICC championship for the second time, it’s something we are so proud of. Well done!”, Aamir concludes.
