Nick Kyrgios already has his retirement in mind as he prepares to return to the sport.

The former world No. 13 has been sidelined by knee and wrist injuries for the last two years.

But he won’t be spending too long in the game before stepping away for good as he has already set a time limit on his career.

Kyrgios’ future has been uncertain since he pulled out of the 2023 Australian Open to undergo knee surgery. He returned last June for one match but injured his wrist and hasn’t played a professional match since.

The 2022 Wimbledon finalist previously admitted he came close to retirement after having an operation on his wrist. While he won’t be hanging up his racket just yet, Kyrgios has already given his career an expiring date after announcing his return.

“I’m far from done, to be honest,” the Aussie said. “I’m in the later stages of my career but I still have one or two years left…”

While he’s only giving himself a couple more years, Kyrgios is motivated to go out on a high.

The 29-year-old added: “I’m feeling extremely well. I’m hitting for around three hours every day now. My wrist from surgery has completely healed and I’m feeling motivated.”

Kyrgios will be back in time for the Aussie tennis summer in January. His home Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open, will be his first Major appearance in 28 months.

The seven-time title winner will return to action in December at the World Tennis League exhibition in Abu Dhabi, where he can get some all-important match play before returning to the professional tour for the 2025 season.

And Kyrgios is aiming high after giving himself just two more years in the game. “I think the one thing that is now on my target is a Grand Slam,” he told Fox Sports.

“I think that will be the only thing that will shut people up at the end of the day.”

He’s already come close in singles, losing to Novak Djokovic in the 2022 Wimbledon final. And he’s already tasted Major glory in doubles, winning the Australian Open with Thanasi Kokkinakis earlier that year.
