The NFL offseason is not even a week old and the league was set ablaze by a report about the Pittsburgh Steelers inquiring about trading for Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Once seen as a generational quarterback, Lawrence has been fairly mediocre in Jacksonville and has yet to reach the lofty expectations laid out for him when he was drafted with the first pick by the Jaguars out of Clemson. Theoretically though, he would be a huge upgrade in Pittsburgh over the combo of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
But it wasn’t an established insider like Adam Schefter or Ian Rapoport dropping the news. It was… former Golf Channel host Ryan Burr?
Steelers have made inquiries to the @Jaguars about a trade for QB Trevor Lawerence. This directly from the horses mouth in the Jags organization. WOW!

Burr currently works for PGA Tour Live and calls Big Ten basketball according to his X bio, so he’s not exactly a go-to source on NFL insider scoops.
That did not deter aggregators from spreading the Trevor Lawrence story around social media at breakneck speed and the report even made its way to national airwaves with Colin Cowherd at FS1 as he broke it down as legitimate news, although it came from an unusual source.

You probably know what’s coming next… reporters who actually cover both teams were quick to shut the Trevor Lawrence trade talk down emphatically.
In fact, multiple reporters called the idea ridiculous according to their sources and that there was “no chance” of a deal being made between the Jaguars and Steelers for Lawrence.
The Steelers in no way imaginable inquired about trading for Trevor Lawrence and have no interest in even reaching out to the Jaguars about acquiring Lawrence, according to a source.

Regarding recent report that Steelers have inquired about a trade for Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, a Jaguars source said there’s “no chance” they’ll trade Lawrence and called the idea “ridiculous.”

Source inside the Jaguars building confirms they have not talked to the Pittsburgh Steelers and have zero interest in entertaining trade talks for Trevor Lawrence.

So there you have it, either this was a complete false alarm and there’s nothing to the Trevor Lawrence Steelers report from Ryan Burr, or a deal shockingly gets done and he becomes this year’s version of Pretty Rickey.
