San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey will miss two weeks of training camp with a calf injury, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan announced Tuesday.
Shanahan said McCaffrey tweaked the calf last week and McCaffrey did not practice Tuesday. Shanahan indicated the injury isn’t considered serious, but the running back is not expected to play in during the preseason.
“He did it a couple days ago,” Shanahan told reporters. “It’s all right. He didn’t pull it or anything, but you guys probably won’t see him this preseason.”
McCaffrey is expected to return in plenty of time to be ready for the team’s regular season opener against the New York Jets on Sept. 9.
McCaffrey rushed for a league-leading 1,459 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2023. He also caught 67 passes for 454 yards and seven touchdowns. His 21 total touchdowns was tied with Miami running Raheem Mostert for the league lead in 2023.
