The New England Patriots have the money to spend this offseason, but apparently will miss out on signing offensive tackle Alaric Jackson.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on Friday that the Rams “are getting close on a long-term extension” with Jackson. Fowler added that the deal was not done but “trending in the right direction,” per sources. The reported deal would be for three years and $57 million.
Jackson started 14 games for the Rams last season after being suspended for the first two games of the 2024 campaign from violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. He did not play in the regular season finale against the Seattle Seahawks.
With the 26-year-old left tackle reportedly coming off the board, the Patriots will need to look elsewhere to bolster the offensive line.
Jackson signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2021. He started 35 of the 41 games he’s played in his first four NFL seasons.
