Week 9 is complete and we are officially halfway through the NFL season. After winning their 14th straight game and beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night, the Kansas City Chiefs have overtaken the Detroit Lions for the top spot in this week’s new NFL power rankings.
How do teams shake out at the start of Week 10?
1. Kansas City Chiefs (+1)
The defense was great and the connection between Patrick Mahomes and DeAndre Hopkins is getting good. Mahomes was great against the Bucs. At 8-0 and not having played well offensively, what happens now when things are starting to click?
2. Detroit Lions (-1)
Their win over the Packers was great. They have weathered the injury to Aidan Hutchinson well.
3. Buffalo BIlls (no change)
They appear to have the AFC East taken care of, barring any absolute derailing.
4. Baltimore Ravens (+5)
That offense is so, so good, as they put up 41 on a very good Broncos defense. Can they improve their pass defense?
5. Atlanta Falcons (-1)
This wasn’t about what they did as they are in control of the NFC South and Kirk Cousins appears to have hit his stride.
6. Minnesota Vikings (no change)
They held on to beat the Joe Flacco-led Colts. Their defense was so good.
7. Washington Commanders (no change)
They held on against the Giants.
8. Green Bay Packers (no change)
A banged-up Jordan Love wasn’t as good against the Lions. But they have offensive weapons.
9. Philadelphia Eagles (+2)
Saquon Barkley has been ridiculous and the Eagles are keeping pace with the Commanders.
10. Houston Texans (-5)
Man, that offensive line was bad against the Jets.
11. Arizona Cardinals (+3)
They have won three straight and four of their last five, and are alone in first place in the NFC West and had another 200-yard rushing performance as a team.
12. Pittsburgh Steelers (-2)
The bye had them slipping, but mostly because of teams around them.
13. San Francisco 49ers (-1)
They didn’t play last weekend and they are on their way to getting Christian McCaffrey back.
14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-1)
They went toe-to-toe with the Chiefs on Monday night but now are under .500.
15. Los Angeles Chargers (+1)
They shut down the Browns with Jameis Winston after he lit up Baltimore. The Chargers’ defense is very good.
16. Cincinnati Bengals (+5)
Yes, they were playing the hapless Raiders, but They are almost .500 now.
17. L.A. Rams (+3)
The Rams are now only half a game out of first place in the NFC West after knocking off the Seahawks.
18. Miami Dolphins (+1)
They are 0-2 since Tua Tagovailoa’s return but they could have won either game. They look much better than without him.
19. New York Jets (+6)
Maybe they can salvage their season now after beating the Texans.
20. Denver Broncos (-3)
Their offense was terrible against the Ravens and so was their defense.
21. Chicago Bears (-6)
They were absolutely manhandled by the Cardinals on both sides of the ball. They are 0-4 on the road and have not scored more than 16 points away from home.
22. Jacksonville Jaguars (+2)
Trevor Lawrence had two more picks but they had a close loss to the Eagles.
23. Seattle Seahawks (-5)
They are 4-5 after a 3-0 start and now are in last place in the NFC West.
24. Cleveland Browns (-2)
That boost from Jameis Winston lasted only one game. He was picked off three times against the Chargers.
25. Indianapolis Colts (+2)
What are the Colts this year? They are the least good of all the mid teams, it seems, but look like they might be decent.
26. Dallas Cowboys (-3)
Already a mess, they have lost Dak Prescott for a few weeks.
27. New York Giants (+1)
QB Daniel Jones had a nice game against the Commanders, but the only reason why they moved up is because of the bad teams behind them.
28. Tennessee Titans (+3)
They beat the Pats, but that doesn’t say much.
29. New England Patriots (-3)
They went back to being the Patriots after a win.
30. Carolina Panthers (+2)
The Panthers beat the hapless Saints and got Dennis Allen fired.
31. Las Vegas Raiders (-1)
They had to get Desmond Ridder on the field things were so bad for Aiden O’Connell. Now they fired OC Luke Getsy. The blame game is starting.
32. New Orleans Saints (-3)
They decided to fire everyone, and Derek Carr’s return did not help them.
