Petit-Frere, originally drafted by the Titans in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, faced a six-game suspension in 2023 for betting on non-NFL games while at the team facility. Though his wagers were unrelated to NFL games, the league’s strict policy against gambling in the workplace led to his punishment. It was reported that he violated the rule by betting during work hours, which led to his absence for a portion of the season.
Despite the controversy surrounding his suspension, Petit-Frere’s new role as a Fantasy Football expert with Fantasy Life, a company founded by Matthew Berry, has raised eyebrows. Fantasy Life is known for delivering daily fantasy football and betting-related content directly to subscribers. While his position does not directly involve gambling activities, the optics of his involvement with a company that focuses on betting are difficult to overlook, especially given his past.
The timing of the announcement further complicated matters. Petit-Frere’s role with Fantasy Life was revealed just days after the Titans suffered a loss to the New York Jets, in which his on-field performance was widely criticized. This coincidence added fuel to the public’s skepticism about the move.
Even with the backlash, Petit-Frere’s career has been notable. He has started 20 of the 21 games he has played for the Titans and remains a key part of the team’s offensive line. However, his decision to align with a company connected to gambling has reignited discussions about the relationship between professional athletes and the growing betting industry.
As gambling continues to play a prominent role in sports, the reaction to such partnerships will likely remain mixed, especially when it involves a player with a recent history of gambling-related suspension.
