There’s no room for a friendly wager in the NFL.
Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers earned notice earlier this year when he revealed on a podcast that he and former LSU teammate Jayden Daniels, now a Washington Commanders quarterback, had wagered $10,000 on which one of them would win the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
Now, the bet’s off before the season has even kicked off.
NFL spokesperson Jeff Miller said in a news conference this week that the bet between the two players has been “rescinded,” according to the Washington Post.
In addition, the two players — who were both selected among the top six picks in this year’s NFL draft — had to undergo multiple education sessions about the league’s gambling policy.
Nabers and Daniels are the latest players to have run-ins with the NFL over its gambling policy. Last year, 10 players were handed down suspensions due to gambling, according to the Associated Press, including the Lions’ Jameson Williams.
