Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen kept his perfect record in Thursday NFL games intact with a 31-10 win over the Miami Dolphins, but it was two other players that helped a bettor make $25,000 in one of the craziest parlays in some time.
What Happened: A Thursday Night Football matchup between the Bills and Dolphins on Amazon.com Inc AMZN Prime Video featured two 1-0 teams and two of the teams favored to win Super Bowl LIX.
The Bills dominated the game in the 31-10 win. The Dolphins may have lost more than just the game with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa exiting the game with a concussion with questions about his return, as well as his football future after multiple concussions in recent years.
Bills running back James Cook paced the team with three touchdowns, two rushing and one receiving, all in the first half of the game.
Cook had no touchdowns in the team’s week 1 win and had only two rushing touchdowns and four receiving touchdowns in the 2023 NFL season.
That didn’t stop one bettor from placing a $100 bet on Flutter Entertainment FLUT-owned sportsbook FanDuel for Cook to score three touchdowns in the game. Cook scored two touchdowns in one single game in 2023, the only time in his short NFL career.
The bettor also parlayed Cook scoring three touchdowns in the game with Dolphins running back De’Von Achane scoring a touchdown in the first quarter of the game. Achane had two touchdowns in the Dolphins Week 1 win and eight rushing touchdowns and three receiving touchdowns in 2023. Achane was a game-time decision for the Dolphins with an injury almost keeping him from playing.
The $100 bet placed with FanDuel had odds of +25,597 with a 10% profit included. The ticket cashed in the first half of the game with Achane scoring in the first quarter, Cook getting one touchdown in the first quarter and adding two touchdowns in the second quarter.
The bettor made a profit of $25,597.20 on the bet. While some social media users have questioned the bet slip as being fake, FanDuel shared the slip on its account.
Bleacher Report’s betting social media account called the win “the most absurd ticket ever.”

What’s Next: The outcome of the Bills and Dolphins game may have been a big win for sportsbooks. BetMGM’s John Ewing said the best outcomes for sportsbooks would be Dolphins winning, Bills covering the +2.5 spread, the under 48.5 hitting, Tyreek Hill not scoring a touchdown and Josh Allen not scoring a touchdown. Four of the five items happened with only the Dolphins failing to win.
BetMGM, which is a joint venture between MGM Resorts International MGM and Entain, may have got a strong start to the second week of the NFL season with the outcome.
The Bills saw its Super Bowl LIX betting odds improve going from +1,600 at the start of the season to +1,300 thanks to the 2-0 start. The Bills are one of 12 NFL teams to never win a Super Bowl, going 0-4 in the big game. The Bills face the Jacksonville Jaguars in a Monday Night Football clash in week three of the NFL season.
The Dolphins saw its odds to win Super Bowl LIX fall to +4,000 with questions over its quarterback. The team faces off against the Seattle Seahawks in week three.
