We don’t know. That is just the plan reality of anything related to the NFL draft (or NFL free agency) at this point in the offseason, just days after the Super Bowl. While we may get some clarity, or at least rumors/reports, coming out of the NFL combine at the end of the month, right now there is a lot of guessing.
For fans of the Cleveland Browns, who long to be where the Philadelphia Eagles are, the quarterbacks will be the primary focus of this year’s draft. Opinions will be all over the place including Shedeur Sanders being compared to one of the AFC’s best while another analyst had both Cam Ward and Sanders ranked among the top 11 prospects this year.
Unlike last year, when Caleb Williams was the assumed top pick before the college season even ended, there is not a consensus about this year’s draft class. There is the belief that Ward will be selected by the Tennessee Titans but some believe Sanders has the higher floor of the two while others believe DE Abdul Carter or CB/WR Travis Hunter she be taken before the quarterbacks.
NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks released his positional rankings which had the top five quarterbacks in an order that might surprise some:
Not only is Sanders over Ward surprising but Dart over Milroe might surprise a lot of people, especially based on what we have heard some NFL teams think of the Ole Miss QB. Fans of The Ohio State Buckeyes will be close to shocked to see McCord’s name anywhere near the list especially with National Champion Will Howard not making it.
Brooks is just one analyst but we will continue to share with you what we are seeing about the top of the NFL draft and beyond, especially the QB position. Brooks has Carter listed as the top “outside linebacker/designated pass rusher” with some high praise:
Abdul Carter is the gold standard as an agile athlete with exceptional first-step quickness and closing burst. A speed-rushing phenom with outstanding balance and body control, the Penn State star has the potential to single-handedly transform a defense as a disruptive force.
Hunter is not ranked among the top five receivers but is the top cornerback in a “loaded” class according to Brooks.
What do you think about Brooks ranking Sanders over Ward? What about the rest of the QB rankings?
