The Cleveland Browns and their fanbase enter the offseason with a lot of focus on the quarterback position and the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. We now know HC Kevin Stefanski will be calling plays while the team interviews for a QB coach to serve under OC Tommy Rees.

Rumors are starting to simmer but will reach a boil in a month at the NFL combine.

While Mel Kiper Jr. and our own Browns mock draft might be focused on the second overall pick and the QB position, running back is a huge question for the team. With Nick Chubb set to hit free agency after two straight years of injuries ending his seasons, Jerome Ford is the only back on Cleveland’s 2025 roster with starting experience.

The good news for the Browns is this year’s NFL draft class of running backs, led by Ashton Jeanty, is special:

The consensus big board currently has eight backs within the top 100 players in this year’s draft with four more among the top 150.

The depth of the class could push some running backs down the board which could play into Cleveland’s hands as they are projected to have 12 picks this year, many of them on Day 3.

Drafting a running back and bringing back Chubb to partner with him could help the Browns return to the roots of their successful offense under Stefanski.
