The Toon teenagers opened the scoring on the half-hour mark at the Magpies’ Little Benton Academy through Matheos Ferreira, the 16-year-old’s third goal in as many league games at under-18 level, before Rovers equalised four minutes later through Freddie Leatherbarrow.

Nathan Dlamini sent the hosts behind shortly after the restart before Rovers netted three goals in the final half-hour of the league encounter as strikes from Tyler Jake Mansbridge, Max Davies as well as Aaron Epia’s own goal saw United’s youngsters end their four-game unbeaten streak across all competitions.
