LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Pickleball continues to rise in popularity, so much so, that new courts continue to pop up here in WAVE Country.
Tuesday, Norton opened 12 brand new, state-of-the-art pickleball courts at the Sports and Learning Center.
It’s thanks to the Humana Foundation’s $200,000 donation.
Officials are excited to make the sport accessible alongside all the sports that are already available at the center.
”We’re trying to help ensure that whatever we create is accessible to everybody, but also can be used for a lot of different purposes. We want people to get excited about pickleball, but if you want to get excited about basketball too, that’s great. What we really want is for everybody to see, there is a piece for activity for them in whatever you’re doing here,” Humana Foundation CEO Tiffany Benjamin said.
As of this year, there are an estimated 36.5 million people who play pickleball in the U.S.
