The Brooklyn Nets decided that they were going to add themselves to the list of teams that will be heading into the 2024-25 season as a rebuilding franchise. Two of the moves that Brooklyn made this offseason, trading Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks and swapping draft picks with the Houston Rockets in a separate trade, have made their offseason well-regarded to others in the NBA.
In a recent ranking by David Aldridge of The Athletic, he ranked the Nets as having the seventh-best offseason among all 30 teams in the NBA. Along with the two aforementioned moves, Brooklyn did not do much else other than pulling off a big move by re-signing center Nic Claxton to a four-year, $97 million deal this summer.
“They hit the reset button by dealing Bridges to the Knicks, ignoring the silly “we can’t trade with our crosstown rivals” nonsense. In doing so, they made the best possible deal for their franchise,” Aldridge wrote. As Aldridge alluded to, there was a point in time where the Nets were trying to add more talent around Bridges, but they decided against it, much to the delight of many pundits around the league.
As a result, the Nets are well set up for the future since they have plenty of first-round picks to work with and more importantly, have control over their own draft picks for the next few seasons. As it stands now, Brooklyn will be moving forward knowing that they have a rebuild that plenty of people, and their fanbase, approves of.
