Nebraska Wesleyan University has named Jim Wiedie as the new Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Director of Athletics Dwight Merilatt announced today.
“I’m really excited that Jim has become our new Head Women’s Basketball coach at Nebraska Wesleyan,” Merilatt said. “He is a veteran basketball coach, and I look forward to him helping to advance and grow the success of our women’s team. His commitment and dedication to the success of our student-athletes remain his number one priority. I know our team will immediately recognize his overall coaching experience, and I can’t wait to see how our team competes under his leadership.”
Wiedie brings an impressive 33 years of coaching experience, including 19 years as a successful NCAA Division I and Division II Head Coach with a career record of 309-226 (57.7%). He joins Nebraska Wesleyan after serving as an Assistant Coach at the University of Nebraska Omaha, where he focused on recruiting, player development, and game strategy.
“I would like to thank Director of Athletics Dwight Merilatt and the other members of the Search Committee for this incredible opportunity,” Wiedie says. “I am thankful and honored to be named the new Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Nebraska Wesleyan University. It was clear to me the moment I stepped on campus that Nebraska Wesleyan was a very special place. I’m looking forward to the challenge of turning this program around and establishing a culture of academic and athletic excellence.”
Before joining Nebraska Wesleyan, Wiedie achieved significant success at the University of Findlay, where he led the team to a 143-107 (57.2%) record, becoming the all-time winningest coach in the program’s Division II history. Wiedie also served as head coach at Indiana State University, compiling a 166-119 (58.2%) record and becoming the all-time winningest coach in program history. Additionally, he was named Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year twice and WBCA Region VI Coach of the Year in 2006. During his 19 years as a head coach, Wiedie has coached 27 All-Conference players and 18 1,000-point scorers.
