The NBA world was shocked on Wednesday when ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski announced his retirement from the news-breaking world. It was a decision that took many by surprise. Wojnarowski has dominated the NBA insider field for over a decade.
He will instead pivot. Wojnarowski will be the GM of the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball program. It’s likely a dream position for the former NBA insider at his alma mater. He gets to stay in the basketball world with a less publicized job.
He famously broke the 2019 blockbuster trade that sent Paul George to the LA Clippers from the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder received Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Danilo Gallinari and a treasure trove of draft picks that are still on their way five years later.
As one can imagine, this type of news sent shockwaves throughout NBA Twitter. Let’s look at some of the best social media reactions to Wojnarowski’s surprise retirement near the start of the 2024-25 season:

I’ve been fortunate to spend more than 20 years in this business working with reams of talented people. Adrian Wojnarowski is the best. Period. A peerless reporter. A gifted wordsmith. A storyteller nonpareil. He is Jim Brown and Barry Sanders, leaving at the apex of his game.

The funniest timeline would have been Shams scooping Woj’s retirement

Do you realize how stressful Woj’s job must have been that he considers “handling NIL and roster management for a college sports team” to be a relaxing step back
