Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards is reportedly set to be the “breakaway act” in the upcoming Netflix documentary following several NBA stars.
Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported Edwards is a “major star” in the series, which also features LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, Jimmy Butler and Domantas Sabonis. Filming took place during the 2023-24 NBA season, focusing both on the court and off the court in the players’ lives.
James’ SpringHill Company, former President Barack Obama’s Higher Ground Productions and Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions are producing the series. It’s expected to follow a similar format to the Quarterback and Receiver series that have followed NFL players. Manning’s Omaha Productions is behind the NFL series as well.
Edwards led the Timberwolves to their second-best record in franchise history (56-26) and to their second-ever Western Conference Finals appearance in 2023-24. On top of being one of the game’s brightest young stars, Edwards is also a boisterous personality who stands out for his marketability.
Putting cameras on Edwards in his day-to-day life always seemed like a brilliant idea, and it’s promising for the series that all signs point to him living up to the billing.
James will likely be the centerpiece of the show given SpringHill’s involvement and his overall stature as one of the game’s all-time greats, but it’s no surprise that Edwards made himself stand out in the crowd.
Netflix has not announced a premiere date or a name for the show, which will likely premiere in the fall.
