The Lakers will have a second consecutive game postponed due to the wildfires in Los Angeles as the NBA announced on Friday night neither the Lakers-Spurs or Clippers-Hornets games would take place.
Thursday’s game against the Hornets was also postponed for the Lakers.
Law Murray of The Athletic initially reported that the Clippers-Hornets game would be postponed, leading to the natural conclusion the Lakers game would be, too. Shams Charania of ESPN, along with Malika Andrews, reported both games would postponed.
The release also mentions that the NBA and National Basketball Players Association will donate a million dollars to multiple organizations supporting those impacted by the wildfires. The league, along with the Lakers and Clippers, is working on ways to offer long-term assistance and rebuilding efforts.
At practice on Friday, head coach JJ Redick spoke for the first time since the team returned to Los Angeles from their road trip. An emotional Redick spoke about losing his home to the Palisades wildfires and what he saw once he returned to the area.
“I was not prepared,” Redick said, via Jovan Buha of The Athletic. “I was prepared for what I saw. It’s complete devastation and destruction.”
While it matters little now, Redick said he and the Lakers wanted to play the game against the Spurs.
While there is no word yet on Monday’s game against the Spurs, the LA Rams moved their playoff game against the Vikings, also scheduled for Monday, to Arizona.
