This NBA news roundup includes a fight, a fine and a fracture. Let’s start with the fight, taking us to Sunday night’s matchup between the Miami Heat and Houston Rockets.

With 35.7 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, the Heat got set to inbound the ball in the backcourt while holding a 99-94 lead. That’s when Rockets guard Amen Thompson got tangled up with Heat guard Tyler Herro. Thompson then threw Herro to the floor and a classic NBA fracas ensued.

Unlike the Jusuf Nurkic/Naji Marshall donnybrook from a few days ago, Sunday night included no true fisticuffs. Nonetheless, six players and coaches were ejected from the game. On the Rockets’ side, this included Thompson, guard Jalen Green and coaches Ime Udoka and Ben Sullivan. For Miami, the refs ejected Herro and guard Terry Rozier.

The Heat ended up holding on for a 104-100 win.

NBA Fines Anthony Edwards $100,000

On Sunday, the NBA announced it fined Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards $100,000 for “using profane language during a live television interview.”

The language in question took place after an elated Edwards gave a postgame sideline interview following Minnesota’s 113-112 Friday win over the Rockets (tough weekend for Houston). Edwards hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 23 seconds remaining, and failed to keep his language G-rated while describing the play.

He said the S-H word twice, and then dropped what turned out to be a very expensive F-bomb a few seconds later. He then did a funny little dance soon after that (that didn’t factor into the fine, but it deserved attention).

In the NBA’s statement about the fine, the league said the amount was partially due to “Edwards’ history of using profane language during media interviews.” This was Edwards’ third league fine this season involving profane language. He also received another fine this season for flipping off a Kings fan in Sacramento.

His fine total on the season now stands at $235,000.

Larry Nance Jr. Fractures Hand

Atlanta Hawks forward Larry Nance Jr. fractured the fourth metacarpal bone in his right hand during Atlanta’s 120-110 win over Miami Saturday, the organization announced. Nance is set to undergo surgery this week, and a timeline for his return is slated to be released following the procedure.

Nance, 31, has averaged 9.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 19.4 minutes per game in 15 appearances for the Hawks this season.
