Music artist Drake was mocked on Sunday by rival Kendrick Lamar throughout his Super Bowl halftime show, where Lamar was flanked by tennis great Serena Willams, Grammy-award winner SZA, and Oscar-winning actor Samuel L. Jackson, who played Uncle Sam.
But not everyone laughed with Lamar, and at the “Degrassi” actor-turned-rapper, who, up until now, has seen few of his peers come to his defense.
Enter Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant, an NBA great, who’s had an on-and-off bromance with Drake that is currently turned on, and who appears tired of Lamar and his art.
“It meant nothing to me,” Durant told AZ Central Sports reporter Dana Scott, who grilled Durant on Lamar’s set, which featured Drake diss, “Not Like Us.”
Instead of just saying that Drake is his friend, and he supports “Drizzy,” Durant feigned ignorance.
“No thoughts. I didn’t really pay attention to it, to be honest,” Durant added. “It was a pretty boring day for a Super Bowl. The game got out of hand. The Super Bowl halftime show was just … I didn’t pay attention to it. I kind of just skimmed through the whole thing, to be honest.”
Lamar’s performance was filled with symbolism and surprises, which some viewers ridiculed but those who got it, lauded. Following his comments on Monday, it’s clear to see which side of the fence Durant, the two-time NBA Finals MVP, falls on.
