Nate McMillan, an NBA coach and Raleigh native, has been using his platform to improve the lives of boys from single-parent households.
He recently wrapped up a three-day camp at New Life Camp, a unique experience in which 75 teenage boys were given the opportunity to dream big and envision their future.
Participants visited Lenovo, where they explored technology, computers, and gaming. They also engaged in public speaking sessions and financial literacy courses with Bank of America and learned about various career paths.
“We want to provide them with programs that will equip them with the tools, the values, the mindset, you know, to lead a positive life and, you know, a life of purpose. give them opportunities to go through our programming,” Nate McMillan, Nate McMillan Foundation said.
McMillan, an NC State legend and NBA veteran who grew up in a single-parent household himself, is committed to bridging the gap for these young men.
“I wanted to be involved in providing programs like this because I believe there’s a lack of resources available to our kids,” he said. “While many people are working to make a difference, sometimes parents don’t know where to turn.”
The foundation’s motto, “Dream, Commit, Do,” reflects its mission to inspire and support these boys.
With McMillan recently accepting a position as the Associate Head Coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, he assures that his dedication to the foundation will continue.
“Even though I’m moving to Los Angeles, I’m not leaving behind my commitment to these boys. We’ll continue our work, and I’ll stay involved,” McMillan said.
