Detroit Pistons rookie forward Ronald Holland II was fined $25,000 by the NBA for escalating an on-court altercation, the league announced on Saturday.
The incident occurred Thursday in a 126-119 loss against the Utah Jazz when Paul Reed bumped into Jordan Clarkson after a layup. Reed then shoved Clarkson and Collin Sexton, prompting Holland to charge toward Clarkson. Holland and Clarkson were assessed technical fouls and ejected.
In addition to Holland, Clarkson was docked $35,000 for his role in the altercation and throwing his headband into the spectator stands. Reed, who received a technical foul, was fined $15,000.
Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff was frustrated with the officials after the contest, calling it “ridiculous” that Holland and Clarkson received double technical fouls. He believed Clarkson should have received the technical fouls after initiating the altercation with Holland, who finished with four points in 12 minutes.
Holland is averaging 6.3 points and 3.1 rebounds on 46.6% shooting from the field in 28 games this season with the Pistons. He has scored in double figures five times, including a career-high 26 points and three rebounds on Dec. 12 in a loss to the Boston Celtics.
