STORY: On a star-studded practice court, tennis great Rafael Nadal rallied with current world number 3 player and fellow Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz… as the two geared up for Rafa’s last professional tennis tournament.

“I am not worried about the next chapter in my life.”

Nadal on Monday told reporters his only focus was on helping Spain claim the trophy this week at the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga… and not on his looming retirement.

“… I’m not here for retiring, I’m here to try to help the team. Then it’s, of course, going to be my last week on the professional tour. But at the end we are here in a team competition.”

Nadal was a surprise pick for the Davis Cup Finals, a tournament which features eight countries.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion had said previously he expected to retire this year after a hip injury that required surgery.

Nadal last competed at the Paris Olympics in July and subsequently missed the U.S. Open and Laver Cup over fitness concerns.

Spain will face the Netherlands in their opening match on Tuesday and Nadal could play with Alcaraz, rekindling the partnership they had at the Paris Games where they reached the doubles quarter-finals.

The Davis Cup Finals run from November 19 to the 24th.
