Nikola Jokic isn’t known as the most emotional guy. He goes to work. He dominates. He doesn’t make a big fuss or get too excited, and you rarely see him talking trash. That’s why it’s so strange to see him hold a grudge, but not with anyone in the league.
Back in 2014, Nikola Jokic wasn’t an NBA champ or an MVP. He was just a young kid from Serbia that no one really knew about. He fell to the second round and was taken by the Denver Nuggets with the 41st pick in NBA Draft.
At that point of the draft, players aren’t usually in attendance waiting to take the stage after their name is called. Since the players aren’t there, broadcasters don’t always feel it necessary to zoom in on the commission for each team’s pick.
Jokic was one of those players watching the Draft from home, hoping to hear his name. Finally, mid way through the second round he saw his name appear on the ticker at the bottom of his TV screen, but the Draft coverage was in a commercial break.
Instead of seeing highlights of him playing in Serbia for Mega Basket, viewers saw a Taco Bell commercial for a cheesy gordita crunch. Jokic still has a chip on his shoulder, and it’s not one dipped in nacho cheese.
Since he was drafted over a decade ago, he has won an NBA title, and three MVP awards. Despite the success, it appears he hasn’t forgiven the fast food chain. Jokic claims “I think I’ve never had Taco Bell just because of that.”
