MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – An initiative to use golf to teach important academic skills will launch this spring, and time is running out to register.
The Move Montgomery Forward Golf Initiative is a mission-driven project for Montgomery Middle Schoolers with a few goals.
The first really has nothing to do with golf. It’s an 8-week program that integrates reading, critical thinking skills, and STEM activities while teaching the game of golf.
There’s also a perception that golf is a game reserved for the elite, so this program is designed to expose the sport to more young people and diversify the sport and it’s associated industries.
The program targets 20 middle school students in the Montgomery area. There is recruitment process that involves interviews, and the deadline to register for the program is Firday. Apply at Move Montgomery Forward Golf Initiative website.
The Moving Montgomery Forward Golf Initiative is also hosting a series of developmental days to introduce students to the fundamentals of golf. And it’s developed a league for students who don’t have golf teams at their school to provide an opportunity for players to grow and learn.
