WOODBRIDGE, NJ — It was big news when we reported Monday that a brand-new shopping center is coming to Woodbridge.
And now on Wednesday, here are more details, from the groundbreaking that was held at noon today:
The shopping complex is called the Cloverleaf retail center and it will be located at the former historic Cloverleaf traffic circle at the crossroads of Rt. 35 and Rt. 1 in Woodbridge. Technically, Cloverleaf will be located on Rt. 35 north, with entrances from Rt. 1 south.
“The Cloverleaf redevelopment project will transform the long vacant and underutilized site that was formerly occupied by Pier One into a productive commercially successful modern retail center that will offer up-scale marketing, retail, dining and shopping experiences,” said Mayor John E. McCormac.
The developer and owner of the Cloverleaf Center is Wick Companies, which has built numerous projects in Woodbridge, including the Red Oak Senior Living Apartments (which replaced Stern Towers) and the Green Oak Senior Living Complex, which is replacing Olsen Towers — both projects offer senior residents better living conditions at no increase in rent.
Cloverleaf Center anticipates a mid-to-late 2025 opening.
Cloverleaf Center will have more than 60,000 square feet of retail space. Sprouts Market is confirmed as their first confirmed tenant, and will be an anchor tenant, taking up the largest retail space there. Wick is finalizing a lease with a national retail footwear company, still unnamed.
Cloverleaf Center is also in various stages of discussions with several national retailers, including Ann Taylor Loft, CAVA, Turning Point, Paris Baguette, Habit Burger and Duck Donuts.
“We are thrilled to have Sprouts, a terrific national organic farmer’s market, as the anchor tenant with multiple clothing retailers, restaurants and health-related businesses expressing interest in locating at the crossroads location,” said McCormac.
